Simple DIY Calendula Toner.

Looking for a Simple DIY Toner For Sensitive and Acne-Prone Skin?

One of the amazing applications for calendula is a calendula toner as it helps to decrease skin inflammation such as the one associated with acne. Why calendula? Check out our The 4 Incredible Benefits of Calendula Blog post.

Toners are great to cleanse the skin in order to balance, soothe and hydrate it. They should be applied to clean face before applying moisturizers, either using a cotton pad or spray bottle:

How To Make DIY Calendula Toner?

For DIY Calendula toner, you will need:

  • ¼ cup of dry calendula petals

  • 2 tablespoons of dry lavender buds (optional)

  • ⅔  cup of distilled water

  • 1 Tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, a.k.a. ACV helps to balance and restore the PH of our skin and keeps the pores open. We use only one tablespoon intentionally, a weak dilution, as we formulated the toner for sensitive skin.

  • 4 Tablespoons of witch hazel (Make sure it is fragrance and alcohol free).

  • Total of 4-6 drops of essential oils (options: lavender, geranium or Roman chamomile. All three share  4 what we call A- properties: 1. Antiseptic, 2. Anti-inflammatory, 3. Antibacterial and 4. Antimicrobial)

Tools: measuring cup, strainer, heat resistant glass bowl, funnel, 8 oz. glass bottle.

    To make:

  1. Once the water is boiled, remove it from the heat.

  2. Add the calendula petals and lavender buds and cover the bowl to steep for 15 minutes.

  3. Strain the petals and the buds from the water once it cools off. We suggest you add these to your composter if available.

  4. While the calendula infused water is cooling off, pour ACV and witch hazel into a clean toner bottle.

  5. Add calendula infused water at room temperature to the rest of the ingredients followed by adding the desired essential oils.

  6. Close the bottle, and shake well.

Note: Always shake the bottle well before using.

How To Use the DIY Calendula Toner?

  • If you are applying the toner for the first time, test on a small area of your skin, such as inside of your wrist.

  • If there is no adverse reaction, apply gently to your face with a cotton pad. Avoid applying around your eyes. Because of the ACV, it might tingle a bit at first which is normal.

  • Do not rinse off, let the toner soak into your skin. Apply your regular moisturizer once the toner dries.

Note: If however, you experience any adverse reaction, please wash the toner off with water and discontinue its use immediately.

How To Store Your DIY Calendula Toner?

This toner should last up to one week at room temperature and up to one month if stored in the refrigerator. Please keep in cool, dry and dark storage. Make sure that you discard any unused contents of the bottle if outside the above indicated storage period. We suggest you label the bottle with either the date when it was bottled or the expiration date.

Voila, you now have an amazing natural facial toner!
