What do you need to keep in mind while incorporating hydrosol into your skin routine?
These are some of the most common questions that we are asked about hydrosols.
And, NO!, we did not forget one of the most important questions, that is, WHY you should consider incorporating hydrosols into your skincare routine?
Did you know that hydrosol comes from Latin, and it means "a water solution", hydro and sol?
Hydrosols are the aromatic waters produced by steam-distilling plants and flowers in copper stills during production of essential oils. They are very delicate as they are water-based, especially if they do not contain any preservatives. Hydrosols still contain the plant essences but are significantly milder as they tend to contain less than 1 percent of essential oil.
Why should you consider incorporating hydrosols into your skincare routine?
Hydrosols have many wonderful properties and are known:
-to help balance the skin’s pH level.
-to be an astringent.
-to have anti-inflammatory properties (Rose, Clary Sage, and Calendula).
-to have antiseptic properties.
-to hydrate skin in colder months.
-to cool skin in warmer months.
-to soothe irritated skin (Calendula and Rose).
-to smell absolutely amazing!
Added bonus: Hydrosols have a variety of additional applications.
What else can you use Hydrosols for?
as body toners or as sprays on their own or with other ingredients.
as water-based ingredients in many lotion, cream and clay mask formulations.
as a compress to soothe tired eyes.
as hair-refreshing mist,
as a makeup remover, or
as linen and room sprays.
How do you layer hydrosols into your skin care routine?
Since thinner products cannot typically penetrate thicker products, in order for your skin to benefit the most from your skincare, we recommend you apply lighter products (hydrosol) first and then heavier products (facial oil, daily moisturizer, or night cream).
Do you use hydrosols only during certain times of the year?
We consider them all year-round MUST haves, as they are known to help with skin hydration during colder months and have refreshing and cooling effects during warmer times of the year.
How often do you use hydrosols?
It all depends on how you decide to incorporate them into your skincare routine. We recommend using your hydrosol any time you apply your facial oil.
How long do hydrosols last?
If stored at room temperature, they typically should last anywhere between 6 months to 8 months. However if stored in the fridge, they can last about one year or even longer.
Note: If you notice a change in the hydrosol, such as cloudiness, change in aroma, floating pieces, mold etc., it no longer has sanitary integrity and needs to be disposed of immediately.
Each rose has a unique scent, just like each of us has our own distinct personal scent. Did you know that there exist about 150 wild species of roses and 30,000 cultivated varieties?
This particular rose is very special to our family as this rose bush is growing in my parent’s garden and it was originally transplanted from my grandma's rose garden in 2006 and before that it grew in her garden for over 20 years.
As we create our own scent blends from essential oils and herbs as well as one of a kind product formulas, the process can be a matter of a weeks but oftentimes it is a few months or even years until it all comes together, and we are ready to start working on the actual product formula or a new scent.
This picture was taken back in June of 2022 in my parents' garden. It all came together February of 2023 during my usual walk with Carly, our canine. Fresh air does the trick for me, for sure as that’s when I decided to add our Rose Hydrosol to our product collection.
