Why Is Dry Brushing Good For You?
Ever since I remember, or at least around the time my mom was about my current age, she has been a big proponent of dry brushing & its benefits.
Me..., well, not so much! Do not laugh, but for some reason, I found it a bit intimidating at the time. Fast forward about 20 years & eventually, I came around. A few years ago, when I started to explore Ayurveda, I finally embraced dry brushing & incorporated it into my skincare routine.
What A Heck Is Dry Brushing?, you ask.
This method of a gentle skin exfoliation has been around for centuries across the globe. Known as garshana, it is well known in Ayurvedic medicine.
Dry brushing removes dry skin cells from top layer of your skin and helps to create soft and glowing skin. Who would not want to have soft and glowing skin?
One simply uses a brush without help of any wet or dry scrubs. Brush with natural bristles with handle is ideal for ease of use. It is a fast way to remove toxins from our body by dry brushing skin on our entire body (not face).
Are You Ready To Try Dry Brushing?
Simply start gently brushing dry skin on the bottoms of your feet & work your way up your legs while brushing. Always work your way towards the heart, center of our lymphatic system drains. Move in straight lines on long bones. Use circular motions around joints. Use the same approach with your hands, arms, shoulders, & rest of your body. Focus more on areas with fat as higher accumulation of toxins. Gradually work your way from total of 1-2 minutes to 5 minutes of dry brushing at one time. You are going for a healthy rosy glow!
How Often Do You Dry Brush Your Entire Body?
It depends on the condition & the type of your skin. However, just like with everything else, finding the right balance is the key. If overdone, dry brushing can dry out your skin even more & can backfire. I usually keep my dry brushing to about twice a week as I like to alternate it with using body sugar scrub. I typically take 3-4 any exfoliation-free days total a week.
Most people prefer to dry brush before taking a shower or bath so they can wash off any dead skin. I sometimes like to dry brush in the morning as it helps me wake-up, whether I take a shower or not.
What Are Some Of The Benefits Of Dry Brushing?
Note: Avoid brushing irritated skin areas, & face‼️, Do not share your brush ‼️ & wash it after several uses with gentle soap & water.
What Do I Use After I Dry Brush My Skin?
If I take shower or bath, following dry brushing, I like to use someone of our products from our unscented line. I start with our nourishing Just Pure (Unscented) Goat Milk Soap. Once I lightly dry off after my shower, where my skin is still slightly damp, I like to apply either our Unscented Too double whipped body butter, or Smooth As Silk double whipped body butter. I let the body butter soak in before I get dressed for the day, or put on my pajamas in the evening.
